Your chauffeured private car meets you at your Paris hotel, usual pick up time of 2pm. Arrive at the Randle moored at Étang Baye, a reservoir constructed in 1784 at the summit of the Canal du Nivernais, and located on the border of the Morvan national park, a region of outstanding natural beauty. Welcome aboard with Champagne and home made gougére pastries. Enjoy an evening stroll around the lake popular with fishermen and sailors.

At 9am we commence our cruise by passing through
three tunnels set deep in a stone walled cutting like
the entrance to an ancient lost city, and then descend
a staircase of 16 consecutive locks, stopping for lunch
along the way, to arrive at our rural mooring at Sardy.

Today our morning cruise takes us to Chitry-les-Mines, (pop’ 219) which gets its name from silver mines worked here during the renaissance, now a quite village with 14c chateau adjacent the canal. Afternoon tour to the fortified Chateau-de-Chitry and its grand interior.

This morning’s cruise includes passing under three lifting bridges to arrive at the small farming community of Dirol, (pop’ 121) After lunch our afternoon guided tour takes you to Chateau-de-Bazoches, dating from 12c and home to famous military architect Marshal de Vauban, who designed over 30 frontier fortifications of France during the reign of King Louis XIV.
An excellent restaurant in the nearby village of Pierre-Perthuis.
Cruising past meadows with grazing herds of white cattle we arrive at Asnois (pop’ 121). The afternoon guided tour is to nearby village of Tannay to les caves tannaysiennes to sample their excellent Pinot noir, Chardonnay, and Melon wines.

Today our cruise along the Nivernais takes us to the old regional centre of Clamecy. (pop’ 4500) Take a walk into Clamecy with winding cobbled streets and magnificent 16c church St Martin. Clamecy was also the seat of the bishop of Bethlehem for 600 years and a centre of logging for 400, now a picturesque town with museum, interesting shops, and restaurants.
The town's old staging inn where once post arrived by carriage and passengers rested dined. Now a classic French restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and extensive wine list.
We depart at 9am and descend the town lock onto the river Yonne and then again onto the Nivernais Canal, the morning cruise takes us past the limestone cliffs of Basville and a 15c fortifed farm. After stopping for lunch we continue to our destination of the day Lucy-sur-Yonne (pop’ 151) with 11c church, river, and mill pond nearby.
We take an afternoon guided tour to the 12c chateau castle Druyes once home Peter II of Courtenay, Emperor of Constantinople, and his wife Matilda, Countess of Nevers, Auxerre and Tonnerre.

9am and we set off along the meandering canal past villages and the magnificent white coral cliffs of Rochers-du-Saussois. After lunch we arrive at the foot of the hilltop village of Mailly-le-Chateau (pop’ 567) with 14c Chateau perched in the very edge of a tall escapement, and fortified 13c church.
Our guided afternoon tour takes you to Vezelay, an UNESCO world heritage site, fortified town, and grand basilica dedicated to Mary Magdalene. Stroll the pretty streets with many boutique shops, café’s and restaurants.
Stay the evening in Vezelay and dine at a charming restaurant in which elegantly presents cuisine prepared with a lighter touch.
We make our way along the canal and river Yonne to the pretty canal side Village of Accolay.(pop’ 467) once famous for its unique pottery. Afternoon guided tour to the limestone caves of the Grottes-de-Arcy, a fascinating cave system which runs for over 500m under the hillside and contains many 28,000 year old Palaeolithic paintings representing Bears, Rhino, and Mammoth.
A surprisingly good find in such a quiet village with elegant under-croft restaurant or al fresco dining on balmy evenings.
9am departure from our morning as we cruise along the Yonne valley with vineyards coming into view on the hills above. After lunch we moor on the river at Vincelles overlooking a watermill with vineyards in the distance.
Take an afternoon guided visit to the pretty wine villages of Irancy & Chitry, tour the vineyards and try the wines in the cellars of the village.

Today is morning market day at the pretty village of Noyers-sur-Serein. A very picturesque and fortified village with 15c timber framed houses with intricate carvings, home to many artists, a potter, a jeweller and a leather worker. Stroll the cobbled streets and market stalls, buy a little something for friends back
After lunch Randle departs, today we are cruising on the river Yonne, with open vistas as we cruise past the pretty riverside villages of Bailly and Vaux to arrive at Auxerre (pop’ 45,000)

l’Aspérule; the cuisine like the deco of this small restaurant has a simplicity and lightness inpresentation but delivers delightful and complex ﬂavours.
Today we continue along the broadening Yonne to Gurgy, (pop’ 1,719) a quiet village on the banks of the river. After lunch aboard we take a visit to the
wine village of Chablis. Tour the famous Grand-Cru vineyards and sample their excellent wines at the caves in the village.

A morning cruising on the river Yonne takes us to the riverside town of Joigny (pop’ 11,012) English impressionist Turner sketched here in 1820 and the town still remains much the same today. Joigny was fortified in the 10th Century and still retains its cobbled streets, ancient buildings, fortifications and gate houses.
