Cruise the upper reaches of the Nivernais canal in deepest rural France; rolling wooded hills, green pastures, and tranquil evening moorings are the features of this beautiful Burgundy cruise. 

6 nights whole boat charter for up to Four Passengers.

Your chauffeured private car meets you at your Paris hotel, usual pick up time of 2pm.

Arrive at the Randle moored at Étang Baye, a reservoir constructed in 1784 at the summit of the canal du Nivernais, and located next to the Morvan national park, a region of outstanding natural beauty. Welcome aboard with Champagne and home made gougére pastries. Enjoy an evening stroll around the lake popular with fishermen and sailors.

Freshly prepared from local ingredients by our gourmet chef Gael, and complemented by premier-cru wine of the region 


At 9am we commence our cruise by passing through
three tunnels set deep in a stone walled cutting like
the entrance to an ancient lost city, and then descend
a staircase of 16 consecutive locks, stopping for lunch
along the way, to arrive at our rural mooring at Sardy.
Take a guided evening visit to market town of
Corbigny (pop’ 1,681) with 18c abbey museum,

The old coaching inn set in the town centre offer traditional Burgundy cuisine in relaxed surroundings.


Today our morning cruise takes us to Chitry-les-Mines (pop’ 219), which gets its name from silver mines worked here during the Renaissance. A peaceful village with 14c fortified chateau adjacent the canal. The afternoon tour takes us to the fortified chateau and its splendid interior.

Evening dining : Auberge-de-Centre

Set in the centre of the pretty village of Monceaux-le-Comte, Ron and Katrina prepare classic french dishes in retro style ambiance. 


This morning’s cruise passes under three lifting
bridges to arrive at the small farming community of
Dirol (pop’ 121). After lunch our guided afternoon
tour takes you to Vezelay, an UNESCO world heritage
site, fortifed town, and grand basilica dedicated to
Mary Magdalen. Stroll the pretty streets with many
boutique shops, café’s, and art galleries.

Evening Dining : Les Deux Ponts restaurant.

A lovely farmhouse style restaurant, with a cosy log fire and menu from fresh local produce, with a warm welcome from Philippe and Marianne Bariteau


Cruising past meadows with crazing white cattle we
arrive at Asnois (pop’ 121). The afternoon guided
tour is to nearby village of Tannay to les caves
tannaysiennes to sample their excellent Pinot noir,
Chardonnay, and Melon wines.

The last day of our cruise along the Nivernais Canal takes us to the old regional centre of Clamecy (pop’4,500). It was the seat of the bishop of Bethlehem for 600 years and a centre of logging for 400, now a picturesque town with a museum of the region and good restaurants. Take a walk into Clamecy with winding cobbled streets, timber framed houses,and magnificent 16c church St

Evening dining: Hostellerie de le Poste

The town's old staging inn where once post arrived by carriage and passengers rested dined. Now a classic French restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and extensive wine
